Controlling exposure.  Controlling the exposure can make a huge difference in the final picture.  It depends what you are looking for, in the two pictures below, taken on an evening week on the shore of the lake at Buck Creek.  Two very different pictures, taken a mere 4 minutes apart, the second one actually after the first one.  In the first one you see a gorgeous sunset in a picture that capitalizes on the colors of the setting sun.  The second, shows more detail and captures the excitement of the viewer pictured in the picture and her love of the beautiful evening and opportunity of enjoying the lake on this fine evening.

The next three pictures were taken in evening hours as we walked up into the gorge at Zion Canyon.  The evening shadows made it difficult to get the exact picture I wanted.  Sometimes exposing to darkly others  more washed out.

Or here at the Getty, you again see how the exposure can change the overall feel of the picture.

And one more chance to look at a favorite of mine taken one evening or the evening shadows were threatening.
